Choose the Best Low-Carb Diet Books

If you’re ready to start living the low-carb lifestyle, you might need some help to get you started. Here are some of the tried and true resources you can turn to for the basics of low-carb living. Whether you want to know about Atkin’s, South Beach or Carbohydrate Addict’s, this list will get you started (or re-started).

1. The Carbohydrate Addict's 7-Day Plan: Start Fresh On Your Low-Carb Diet! by Rachael F. Heller and Richard F. Heller.

Designed for people who fallen off the wagon on a low-carb diet, but want to return, this title offers plenty of advice from people who live it themselves.

2. Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, by Robert C. Atkins.

This is the book that started it all. It’s been revised numerous times and there are companion cookbooks, shopping guides and carb counters, but this is what you need to understand the basics.

3. The South Beach Diet : The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss by Arthur Agatston

Less restrictive than Atkins, South Beach allows for more foods in moderation than Atkins, so some prefer it. Again, has companion cookbooks and other guides, but this is enough to get you started.

4. The Insulin-Resistance Diet : How to Turn Off Your Body's Fat-Making Machine by Cheryle R. Hart M.D. and Mary Kay Grossman

The book claims 95 percent of the authors' patients have successfully lost weight and maintained it with this program, which links carbohydrates with the right amount of protein for maximum weight loss. While it isn’t no-carb, it does limit carbs, but is especially helpful for those with PCOS or who are worried about diabetes.
