Foods with Hidden Carbs

We may not know it but there are a lot of foods with hidden carbohydrates. It is therefore very important to read the label even if some companies round the numbers. Be familiar with fillers in foods like artificial sweeteners, fiber supplement mixes, sugar-free fruit drinks, sugar-free gelatin mixes, and other products that come as dry powders for mixing as they contain carbohydrates with the same glycemic index as does glucose. Other foods with hidden carbs include sugar alcohols, glycerin, alcoholic beverages, cream, cheddar cheese, Swiss cheese, eggs, sugar-free Jello, sugar-free Tang, coffee and Metamucil. Deli ham, deli turkey, deli beef, hot dogs, spam, and smoked sausage technically don’t have “hidden carbs” but a lot of people misbelieve that just because they are meat, it must be carb-free.
