South Beach Diet: What it is and how it works

The South Beach Diet is probably the hottest diet plan in the weight loss arena right now. However, even if it is often referred to as a low carb diet, it is in fact not a low carb one. It still has its own generous hare of carbohydrates in the diet, but the trick here is to eat the “good carbohydrates” and the right amount of fat.

This diet is divided into three phases. Like any other diets, the Phase I is the most difficult part to overcome. It lasts for 14 days and you are only allowed to eat vegetables, salads, meat, fish, chicken, eggs, non-fat yogurt, nuts, and low-fat cheese. Aside from these foods, everything else is prohibited.

After surviving the first phase, you then move on to Phase II, which allows you to add breads, fruits, and sweet potatoes to your diet. It gets easier as time passes by. In the third phase or maintenance phase, you are then allowed to eat anything you want, as long as you keep your weight. Once you notice that you are already gaining weight, you go back to Phase I.
