Side effects of low carb diets

There is no perfect diet. Low carb diets, in particular, are bound to have side effects because it reduces the body’s intake of carbohydrates, which are usually the primary energy sources of the body.


One of the side effects of low carb diets is the low blood sugar levels. While this may be good for most people, diabetics need to take caution especially if they are taking insulin. Insulin medications should then be adjusted to compensate for diet changes.


However, side effects don’t necessarily mean negative effects. These can be good side effects, such as reduced sugar cravings, increased energy, reduced feeling of being bloated, regular bowel movements, controlled blood pressure levels, loss of excess water retained in the body, and ultimately, loss of unwanted body fat.


During the first week of your low carb diet, you might experience several uncomfortable side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headaches, lethargy, severe cravings for sugar, constipation, and irritability. However, these will decrease as your body adjusts to your new diet.
