When a person hears about low carb diets, he automatically thinks that this is a great way to lose weight. After all, it has worked for a lot of people before; why wouldn’t it work for him as well?
Although a low carb diet my actually help a person lose weight, it is not exactly a healthy way of doing so. For one, carbohydrates are needed by the body in order to function well. It provides the energy needed by our body to do its daily tasks. Carbohydrates are also the main sources of glucose, which is the food of the cell.
While the body can still generate energy out of protein and fat sources, it does not do so without side effects. High fat intake (which is usually what low carb diets advocate), can increase one’s risk of getting heart diseases and stroke. Also, too much protein increases acidity in the body, and calcium is pulled out from the bones in order to neutralize this acidity. Hence, the bones become more brittle and prone to osteoporosis. Perhaps these side effects are enough reasons for you to cross out low carb diets in your list.
