Are low carb diets great for teens?

We all know that body image is of primary importance to teenagers. Hence, these people are the ones who are very interested in low carb diets. Every teenager wants to have that ideal body that is emulated by the media.


However, low carb diets are not really ideal for teens. Teenagers need all the carbohydrates they can get, because this is the time when their bodies grow and develop. But then, they must take note that everything taken in excess is bad for the health. Low carb diets are then recommended for overweight or obese teenagers.


Teenagers on a low carb diet are advised to take small frequent feedings instead of three large square meals a day. Complex carbohydrates, such as whole grains and vegetables, should be included in the diet, while simple sugars should be eliminated.


Take note that whatever low carb regime a teenager is planning to take, he or she should consult his or her dietitian first.
